To meet our goals across NCIL's five year project cycle, we are tracking our progress through products, services and reach.

OUR GOALS

We will achieve our mission through five overall goals:
 

  • Goal 1: Identify or develop free or low-cost evidence-based assessment tools for identifying students with or at risk for literacy-related disabilities.
     

  • Goal 2: Identify evidence-based literacy instruction, strategies, and accommodations, including assistive technology, designed to meet the specific needs of students with or at risk for literacy-related disabilities.
     

  • Goal 3: Provide families of students with or at risk for literacy-related disabilities information to assist such students.
     

  • Goal 4: Identify or develop evidence-based professional development for teachers, paraprofessionals, principals, other school leaders, and specialized instructional support personnel.
     

  • Goal 5: Disseminate the products to regionally diverse SEAs, REAs, LEAs, and schools.

Year 1 Progress

OUR PROGRESS

Year 1

Products:

  • Produced 2 webinars on current literacy topics that included panels of diverse stakeholders

  • Created and launched 2 toolkits, including an extensive online Dyslexia Toolkit for educators

  • Developed 23 articles and infographics on various literacy topics

  • Distributed 12 newsletters, one each month

  • Worked with partners to translate family-focused literacy briefs and infographics into Spanish

  • Translated research into infographics to make them more accessible to different audiences

Services:

  • Conducted needs assessment activities with family organizations

  • Held Advisory Board meetings with key stakeholders

  • Provided technical assistance to SEAs, REAs, LEAs, schools, and family-focused organizations on a variety of literacy-related topics

  • Hosted 4 live webinars on current literacy topics including the Science of Reading

  • Participated in 6 national and regional conferences/events on improving student literacy outcomes

Reach:

  • 253,631 website visitors, an increase of 32% 

  • 10,000 followers on social, an increase of 24%

  • 6,950 newsletter subscribers

Year Two Progress

Year 2

Products:

  • Released the MTSS-R Implementation Guide, a step-by-step guide to implementing multi-tiered systems of support in reading (MTSS-R)

  • Released the Academic Screening Tools Chart Selector to help users find academic screeners based upon personalized search criteria

  • Produced 4 webinars on current literacy topics that include panels of diverse stakeholders

  • Authored 3 articles for The Reading League Journal on literacy topics including intensifying reading instruction, best practices for English Learners, and phonological awareness

  • Translated research into 9 infographics to make them more accessible to different audiences

  • Released 3 toolkits on instructional intensification, understanding evidence-based literacy practices, and supporting students with dyslexia

  • Distributed 12 newsletters, one each month

Services:

  • Held 2 Advisory Board meetings with key stakeholders

  • Hosted 9 events on current literacy topics including intervention for students with or at risk for dyslexia, the science of reading, implementing MTSS-R, preparing pre-service candidates to teach reading, and live Reading the Room webinars.

  • Participated in 14 national and regional conferences/events on improving student literacy outcomes

  • Provided 57 technical assistance engagements to SEAs, REAs, LEAs, schools, and family-focused organizations on a variety of literacy-related topics including tiered supports for reading intervention and instruction, evidence-based practices for literacy instruction at different grade levels, and data-based decision-making

Reach:

  • 331,783 website visitors, an increase of 36%

  • Doubled social media following to 21,407

  • 8,178 newsletter subscribers, a 17% increase

Year 3 Progress

Year 3

Products:

  • Created 41 digital products including 3 tutorials and toolkits and 13 briefs and infographics

  • Updated the State of Dyslexia map

  • Updated the external Resource Respository

  • Held the annual Clash of the Heroes contest

  • Distributed 12 newsletters

Services:

  • Nominee for the Library of Congress Literacy Award, The David M. Rubenstein Prize

  • Hosted 4 live webinars on current literacy topics, including intervention for students with or at risk for dyslexia and supporting students with reading disabilities

  • Held 2 Advisory Board meetings with key stakeholders

  • Provided 14 technical assistance engagements to SEAs, REAs, LEAs, schools, and family-focused organizations on a variety of literacy-related topics including tiered supports for reading intervention and instruction, evidence-based practices for literacy instruction at different grade levels, and data-based decision-making

  • Participated in 26 national and regional conferences/events on improving student literacy outcomes

Reach:

  • 345,000 website visitors, an increase of 4%

  • 8,837 newsletter subscribers, an increase of 8%
